CHOICES

hEALTH ACTION TRUST - CAYAD NELSON

Objectives: The CHOICES collaboration targeted young party-goers aged approximately 13 to 16. It aimed to promote safer partying behaviour by using theatre-in-education. It was first piloted in the South Island with high school and alternative education students.

What is it? CHOICES is a touring project which involves a highly engaging live performance by four actors about a night of partying gone wrong, followed by a facilitated discussion.

It requires script development in liaison with local young people, actor and director contracts, touring and associated venue and accommodation planning, performance development and rehearsals, and evaluation with key stakeholders.

Results: Audience engagement was very high, messages and issues raised were highly relevant, and the sessions contributed to attitudinal shifts and potentially behavioural changes amongst students.
